My son was also diagnosed with sleep apnea 3 days after leaving the hospital. Did your doctors look into the cause? After 2 weeks in ICU they found out it was due to a my son having a long QT (length of time between heart beats) and they prescribe him propranalol for his heart murmurr (found later w/ cardiologist). He was put on a respirator to "show" him how to breathe and after 3 days he took it off and did well. Finally, at home the apnea monitor's Beeping sound would wake him/me enough to remind him to breathe or I would stimulate him w/ a little massage. Other than that all you can do for now is make sure he has a good, clean air supply and monitor his progress. He only had to use the machine for a few months and now he's 6 yrs old and doing fine.

Do you breastfeed? Breastfeeding really helps with a lot of things. If you don't do you ever do skin to skin contact? Like you can just lay him naked on your chest, chest to chest for a while. Maybe for 2-3 hours each day. Direct skin to skin. It helps to regulate newborns breathing. It's called kangaroo care. Usually used for preemies but it is used to prevent apnea. Also if you do not co-sleep atleast consider having baby in room with you. Studies show that co-sleeping helps regulate newborns breathing by preventing the baby from going into a deep stage of sleep. Plus your breathing also helps to regulate. If you are scared of having baby in bed with you consider getting one of those cribs you can have near you.

change your detergent to Seventh Generation Baby laundry soap and get a natural mattress cover for the crib.
In-home chemicals are very hard for baby's system
