very sloppy paint job aprox. 8yrs old

power washer is ok if you dont get so close you ruin the integrity of the brick face...sandblasting is a no-no i believe 'cause once you take the face off the brick it will be subject to water absorbtion and freezing and cracking

Yes, There is a sand blasting machine that will take the paint right off with ease. Call up the nearest United Rentals for more info on the machine itself and the cost to rent it for the day.

There are allot of removers on the market; must read the label, particularly using it inside;i.e., fumes, spillage will destroy carpet flooring etc. It might be easier to use a bin primer and then repaint.
Alot of ventalation is a must.
