i get to watch them because my wife likes them and i can say almost without exeption they are sloppy predictable pap.
they all star one of the following hugh grant,j lo,that one off of et,tom hanks or if they want someone shouty adam sandler oh and mathew mcgonaghey(maybe i dont know)
The story then unfolds as follows:
girl meets boy - girl mostly hates boy and some times boy hates girl as well - girl gets to know boy a bit better - with the aid/interferance of some comedy 'friend', boy shows that underneath hes really a nice person - by then, most of the time the boy thinks hes blown it and chases after the girl who has mostly met some handsome but really unsuitable stranger by this time - they get together kiss the end

The films appeal to our romantic sides that we don't get from our own guys. I'll give you credit though, at least you watch them with your wife, my husband won't come within 10 feet of a chick flick, lol

I think it's the same reason guys watch action flicks: The ending is predictable, you don't have to think too much and three days later, you can't remember anything about the movie.
People need distraction from the grind and reality of everyday life. Whether that's chick flicks or action movies (which a friend of mine calls d*** flicks) or comedies.

I suppose the same thing can be said about most genre films. The end is nearly always predictable and it is only once in a blue moon that the end throws you!
It's not JUST women who like "Chick Flicks". I work in a shop that sells DVD's and you would be surprised the amount of men that buy them!
Some are actually quite good!

Um I do like chick flicks but some not the predictable ones, I like many sundance films that are very interesting and have a twist to it even the foreign films that are different the mainstream films are getting lame to me cant keep my attention long enough but that's just me. I see what you mean.

Romantic comedy films aren't romantic and they damn sure aren't funny. They're written by people who can't write, that goes for Chick Lit "novels" (and I hate to use that word to describe drivel like that) too.
I can relate to your pain, my friend. I am so sick of watching these stupid Chick Flicks about these thirty-something singleton women who spend the whole film obssessing about the size of their backsides. Who cares about that nonsense?
You need to flip on a good blood n' guts war flick now and then to restore the manly balance in your house.

I hate chick flicks!!! with a passion give me scarface, godfather or any thing with violence and action
Chick flick are just clones of everything that came before
Chick flick are proper cheesy and if you think that whatever "magic" in that film , is gonna happen to you , your'e a bit of a fool

We like to see romance and happy endings. And if there's a good looking fella in it all the better.

why do blokes like action flicks?! its abit of escapism, we all wish we were the woman who meets the man of her dreams, falls in love, overcomes every problem thrown at them and live happily ever after. we know it doesnt happen like that, but we can dream. im sure there are days when you wish your life was like a rocky film or terminator. women love romance, blokes love action, thats just the way it is

woman live in the "dream " world of life,, open the car door,, sweep them off thier feet etc.. in the real world life is going on and on, they love that romantic stuff,, read a romance novel sometime, guy has ripped abs and muscles, makes love to her and she is in a daze for days, he even helps " clean her up" ,
it is never some beer gut guy that farts doing them on the couch in front of a rerun of Married with children and a plate of nachos spent sitting on the coffee table with a couple beer cans,

Yep, you're right, the most boring, predictable & repetitive thing in the world. Sooo... why do they like chick flicks??? well, I guess coz they're chicks!!!
