WHat is the best digital camera on the market, that is easy to use, and under $400.00?

I would narrow this down to the Sony Cybershot DSC-H5 and the Canon Powershot S3 IS. They both have 7.1 MP, image stablization, great long range optical zoom, very user friendly, yet enough manual settings to last you through your exploration of digital photography. They are both in the same price range $350-$400 (you will find the best deals online, try butterflyphoto.com for good deals). They are pretty much the same camera, so if I were you, I would go to Best Buy or another major retail outlet and hold each camera, try taking a couple of shots etc. At that point, getting a camera you feel comfortable shooting with should be the deciding factor between the two. After answering questions here for about 8 months, I finally decided to get a Canon Powershot SD900. I was going to go for the SD700-IS, but they were out of stock everywhere and it gave me time to re-think my purchase. This is going to be a pocket camera to use when I don't want to carry one of my SLR's with me, but I still want really great image quality from the camera. Anyhow, after months and months of reading reviews, the SD900 was my top choice. I found a review in Popular Photography the day after I ordered my Canon that suggests that maybe the Pentax Optio A20 would have been a better choice, but, I don't believe it. The Pentax does have shake reduction, but I doubt this will be necessary in a camera that only zooms to an equivalent of 114 mm and I just can not believe that 10 MP on a smaller 1/2.5" sensor (Pentax) will be better than 10 MP on a 1/1.8" sensor (Canon) that is nearly twice as large.

Anyhow, go here to see the comparison article on 5 compact camera and see what you think. If you really don't want to read reviews, I am still happy that I am got the Canon SD900 and this would be my recommendation for anyone at this point, since it is what I chose for myself. I ordered from B&H Photo where the price is $343 (today) for the SD900. They have been playing with the price point for this camera since Christmas and that's why I say "today." Every time I check back, it's got a different price.

I also bought a 5-year Mack warranty for $50. If you are even a little paranoid or clutzy, I feel that it is money well-spent. These are somewhat delicate compared to SLR's.

A canon power shot is a great camera. Canon is definately the most reliable brand. I have had differant cameras, and the best was a Canon powershot. They come in a range of prices and capabilities. They are easy to use, and most take video and sound. Mine lets me customize my wall paper and stuff like that. It also has differant picture taking modes lif sports or dark mode. Dont get caught up in how many pixels a camera has. Most cameras have lots of mega-pixels, but poor proccesors and lenses. A Canon powershot has agreat lense and a great proccesor.

I have a Canon Powershot. Their a pretty good camera. Mine was really cheap-like $160 dollars. But theres newer ones of this type that you can get for more.

never buy a Sony.
they all use special memory stick which is rare and more expensive, keep changing and not compatible even within the Sony family of cameras

Canon and Panasonic Lumix are excellent choice
you cannot go wrong aslo with those thin and sexy Casio

I ahve a panasonic lumix ,it was 359 and I have a 10x zoom,night and portrait modes ,very easy to learn to use and it takes very good quality photos.
