It's almost always quoted the way you wrote it, but interestingly, Groucho said it a bit differently, saying "to be unhappy" rather than "in order to be unhappy". His full sentence reads, "I only cite these annoyances to you to show that it isn't necessary to have relatives in Kansas City to be unhappy."

This was in a letter he wrote on Jan. 18, 1951. The letter appeared in his book "The Groucho Letters".
