The National Institute of Mental Health estimates that half of all alcoholics and up to 75% of all addicts have a mental disorder.

It is my belief that the people who are more mentally fit don't stick around, leaving a bunch of people who have more problems than just addiction.

If you look at the old-timers, they certainly aren't the embodiment of "happy, joyous, and free". When I was told that it is a life-long program, and I got a look and listen to them, I figured I'd rather die than become one of THOSE people.

Luckily, it's not an either/or proposition. According to Harvard, 80% of people who quit for at least two years, do so on their own with NO treatment.

I think it is the world,

people drink to be happy,

why did ANNE NICOLE SMITH DIE?

She was trying to be happy and apparently aside from all the quote glamor had a horrible life. It appears that drinking and or drugging is a way to for lack of a better word not kill your self. Numb is better than dead.

Anne taught me a lot her experiences were are similar to mine as far as her family treated her.

YEAH I FEEL BAD FOR HER, after hearing some things she recorded she was a tortured soul and died because of it, her family and society did it.
