This is a common problem with the 240 model. It's a moderately difficult job to replace the heater fan motor but most available kits come with comprehensive instructions. Two suppliers to check would be:

www.volvopartsdirect.com and www.autopartswarehouse.com

I think the best kit to be found would be the one supplied by IPD (www.ipdusa.com). It's complete and inexpensive.
There are plenty of others and a good internet search will get them for you.

no the dash doesn't have to come off but it is still a big job and requires a hole saw to remove rt. squirrel cage and motor. you are best recommended to a long time dealer or trust-worthy Volvo specialty shop. if you must do it yourself contacting IPD USA . com for parts and installation instructions will be most valuable to you. good luck and have fun afterwords [you will have earned it]
