Protein is used to build and repair body tissue. The only time your body uses protein for energy is when you consume more than your body needs for building and repairing tissue. When this happens your body changes the extra protein into fat and stores it for future use as a source of energy.

It is possible for the body to convert excess protein into fat as is the case for any excess calorie sources. However the conversion process is "expensive" and may actually metabolize and equal amount of calories...thus leading to no net gain of fat weight.

Protein would not become fat. the way your physique places on fat is that it takes in extra energy than it burns. All energy are equivalent on your physique. it is not considerable if those energy come from protein, fat, or carbohydrates. If there are too many energy then your physique will shop them as fat.
