If I go on 1 side it looks dark, if I walk to the other side it looks lighter. Is tis common? It was hand made in India. I hope it is a good rug, I paid alot for it. I can still take it back but I think it looks cool so I don't really want to.

Yes, it's very normal for a handmade rug to look much different depending which end you're looking from. Sometimes it's a slight difference, and sometimes it's extreme, like from brown to gold. When the knots are made, the fibers lean in one direction, instead of standing perfectly straight. Try it different ways to see what you prefer.

Just because it's from India doesn't make it good, but they GENERALLY are because the people there specialize in that craft. Because threads can be different colors, that's what makes you see different shades of color in your rug. Don't worry about it.
