I mostly just answer sweety...but once in a white I will ask a question to hopefully make people think a bit. I look for questions that seem sincere...but alas, I think that most of the questions in this particular area...as well as government and politics...are just people wanting to make a statement or take a stand on something.

Some of the time I really do ask questions I don't know the answer to and sometimes I ask questions as part of a thought experiment.
For example, I've asked questions of Christians because I honestly didn't know how most felt about or viewed a certain topic or facet of their faith. I've also asked questions to see if Christians will answer in a way I think they will or if they'll say something surprising. And sometimes I ask to see if people will admit to something.

A little of both. I see a LOT of "questions" posed by believers that are actually just proselytizing. I also see other questions from believers that are legitimately trying to understand why others don't believe as they do.

it may be that people ask the questions that they already KNOW the answer to...
but there is a good percentage of questions that AREN'T really questions at all...
well the way look at it, is that this is called Y! ANSWERS as opposed to Y! QUESTIONS...
so people should just choose what question they see fit to ANSWER or which question is a "legitimate" question & just ignore the rest so as not to be a part of promoting them (unless you want to have a little laugh on the side, well to each his own).

I think it is a little of both on both sides. Everyone likes to believe they are right about their convictions. My only hope is that all people using this forum will do so with respect and without name calling.

I seldom ask a question I don't know the answer to. I just want to know others opinions. I would hardly call that just shouting out beliefs.

There are many reasons why people ask questions. For me I ask certain questions to gain insight into people's minds and their way of thinking. I also ask questions to learn about different things as well.

I'd say half and half. Some have true questions they want answers to....and some use it as a place to advertise their beliefs and force them down others' throats..
