The US military is brutalizing innocent Iraqis, invading and destroying their homes, kidnapping their family members, and stealing their valuables. Not to mention TORTURE! So isn't it only natural that some would fight back (insurgents)?

My fellow Americans, you cannot tell me that if a foreign military invaded and occupied the US, that Americans wouldn't fight back. But of course we have the media propaganda about how the heroic US military has to fight the evil Iraqis.

You need to get a clue.

Iraq has an elected government and the Iraqi people are allied with us in order to defend that government.

The people who are 'fighting back' against a government elected in UN certified elections want to set up a dictatorship with themselves in charge.

And I am calling you a _liar_ for your claims that US troops are brutalizing the Iraqi people.

"Iraqis" are not fighting back. Your average Iraqi guy wants a decent job and safety for his family. Those are not the guys fighting us. Those are the guys being blown up by suicide bombers in places like farmers markets, where they're just trying to buy food. Your average Iraqi is not being tortured or terrorized by U.S. troops (and never was!) but is living in nightly fear of a visit by sectarian death squads.

There are multiple insurgencies going on right now. None of them represent "Iraq". They do represent their own identity and interest groups: Sunni, Shiite, Kurds, Iranian agents (Qods), and criminal gangs. There are also the al-Qaeda foreign fighters, but less and less as Iraqi factions turn on them.

Sunni insurgents do not want U.S. troops to stabilize the country because they don't accept the legitimacy of the elected (Shiite-dominated) government. The rest of the fighting, especially by al-Sadr's militia, has to do with internal power struggles which, ironically, are happening because everyone knows the U.S. is leaving sooner or later. The various insurgent factions are just getting a head-start on the civil war bloodletting that is the future of Iraq when we leave.

I'd love to live in your world where the enemy is so easy to identify. But things are not black and white. Get used to it.

You're crazy and you don't have all the truth. The insurgents are not Iraqis. They are from other countries like Syria and Lebanon etc., etc. You have a very flawed outlook on it and that's because you are too much of a coward to join the military and learn the truth. Until you get some balls, don't even talk like you have a brain cause you're not fooling anyone but yourself.

Good question. Unfortunately the Bush administration began its propaganda campaign before the war even started, and so the American people were led to believe they would be treated as liberators when they arrived in Baghdad.

I believe memories and images of the reception the US military got when they helped free France in WWII made some of us think the same would happen here. After all, the government leaders and most powerful people in America are the veterans and children of the veterans who experienced that good feeling. We like the idea that we're seen as protectors of the those in need even if no one really sees us that way.

I was not one who believed we would be appreciated in Iraq or that the fight was going to be easy. I just had to look back at the Viet Nam and Korean conflicts to see what could happen. But as we know, Bush had his agenda, and far too many politicians were happy to sign on.

So I have to agree that it's amazing more Americans didn't expect Iraqis to fight back. Even if the vast majority of Iraqis aren't involved in the fighting, and the vast majority of US personnel aren't brutalizing and humiliating the people we're supposedly trying to help, We still shouldn't be surprised at the intensity of the response or that we're now hated more than ever.

You're so far gone that you can't be helped. I won't even bother to change your lunatic mind.

However, one thing I can clearly address since there's no opinion involved... just mere fact. The ones "fighting back" as you say, have been operating for years and most aren't even Iraqi.

I'm curious, where does one get the information you are spouting?

I'll let my husband know that he's a brutalizing, vandalizing, kidnapping rapist. I'm sure he wouldn't want to live in denial. I'm glad you opened my eyes to it.

(In case you didn't catch it, that was sarcasm.)

AMEN!

OMG YOU SHOULD RUN FOR PRESIDENT!

I bet no one has ever realized that before or even spoken out against Bush! You are my hero!

Bush's demon storm troopers attacked, killing the babies first so they could drain the oil from their blood. Then they killed the pets so they could eat their raw flesh. Then they raped their cattle and stampeded their women. Then the men began to fight back, and the news acts like they are terrorists! CAN U BELIEVE THAT!

Wow...was that cherry or berry flavored Kool-Aid? All the media is showing the bad side of that war. I have talked to a bunch of vets that state that there is plenty of good going on. I personally do not think that the government of Iraq will work till the people want it to. Plus there is like 5000 years of this happening that is not going to get solved in a few short years.

People are ignorant to the real truth about this war. Its not about freedom for the Iraqi people, its about the oil under there land. PERIOD! Anyone who believes its about bringing democrasy to the Iraqi people are brainwashed by the media. If what we are supposedly trying to do was for the people we wouldn't be met with such opposition. We need to get the hell out of that country and bring our men and women home.

Are you ADD? Or were you just born that way? I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you. Real cheap too! My friend at work is from Iraq and knows more than you about all that is going on there. He just laughs at people like you.
