If God destroyed the Tower of Babel, and gave everyone different languages because their tower was getting too close to Heaven, why is there no big problem with air or space travel?

LOL. Good stuff.

I spend way too much time thinking of stuff like that, and not once did I ever think of that question.

Genesis 11:4 "Then they said,'Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth'. And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the sons of men had built. And the Lord said, 'Behold, they are all one people, and they have all one language; and this is only the beginning of what they will do; and nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them. Come, let us go down, and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one an-others speech.' So the Lord scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they left off building the city. Therefore its name was called Babel, because there the Lord confused the language of all the earth; and from there the Lord scattered them abroad over the face of all the earth."

Maybe the Lord is worried more by the Nobel Peace Prizes?

The reason for building the tower was to have a rallying point, so that the people would stay together and have one nation and one family. When God had told them to disperse across the entire planet following the flood.

But also the tower was to serve as an observatory for astrology and similar practices that would seek to replace God and his guidance with a belief in the stars and other signs.

It was not because the tower was too tall, but because its propose was to defy the orders and leadership of God.

Note that God did not knock down the tower. If height was the issue, he would have done that. Rather he confused the language so that people would disperse and no longer unite together to defy him.

The problem wasn't that they were building a tall tower. The problem was their motivation. They had decided that they didn't need God, so they figure that if they built a high enough skyscraper, they would reach heaven and literally wage war against God. Unsuprisingly, this line of reasoning ticked God off. Thus, there is no problem with airplanes and space travel. The reason for flying machines is to get from point A to point B, not to declare war against religion.

First te bible does not say God destroyed the tower of Babel e mearly stopped it's construction by confusing languages. The tower was built to directly challenge God's authority. Air and space travel do not have those intentions, they are mearly a means of travel and scientific discovery.

I didn't realize that it was because they were getting too close to Heaven. The text of Genesis doesn't say that (it actually suggests that God had to "stoop down" to look at them, like their tower was so small in God's eyes).

The problem was that they disobeyed a direct command from God to spread out over the entire Earth, instead of just gathering together in one place.

Maybe God was worried about how local overpopulation would affect the environment

I got yer Tower of Babel right here.

Seriously (?) since the airlines on-time record is abysmal God knows that he can move Heaven if anyone flies too close, plus no one would be able to find their luggage once they landed.

Cuz the Wright Brothers werent openly mocking God and saying they were attempting to fly their way into Heaven. Allegedly, the builders of the Tower of Babel WERE attempting to make their way to Heaven... The Wright Borthers were just out to get laid by foreign chicks!

I think this was more about the condition of people's heart. If you think you start to get too smart, there are ways that God can show that He is still in control. : )

There was a language that everyone was able to understand when it was needed for the rapid spreading of God's word. I do not remember how they called that language.

He was angry at those people because of their motives as to why they built the tower. They built the tower SPECIFICALLY to reach the Godly heaven. The bible says that no mortal human can see heaven. If you read it, it's as if they were going up against, rebelling against God.
