There is no way to just GET a best friend.
It is like respect: You earn it.
And it takes time.
Friendship is a word that covers all manner of personal association, from acquaintance through lover. The best of marriages are those where both spouses remain the best of friends.
Someone who is truly your best friend is one who understands and accepts you as you are, including your idiosyncrasies. It is someone who will come to love you, not in a sexual manner, but in a deep and personal way that becomes an unspoken bond between you.
It is someone who shares your joy, sadness and close, even tender moments, where your deepest emotions are exposed, such as after a death of a loved one. It is one who gives support when asked, and who sees you get support when needed, even if it has to be supplied without your knowledge.
To get all this, you must yourself be willing to give some or all of it to another person, and when you do give it, you must do it with only the best of intentions, and never ask for their appreciation.

Young man, you should not think so much about how to get a good friend but rather how to be a good friend.
