Targeting abdominal muslces will help tone them.

The bulge comes from fat. Certain people store more around their belly than others.

Only way to have a flat stomach is to reduce the amount of body fat. Diet, exercise, etc.

A lot of people think they can target an area, then lose fat just in that area, which is not the case. You lose fat uniformly over your entire body (although if you store more fat on your stomach, chances are you'll lose slightly more fat around the stomach as compared to the rest of the body) Hope that made sense.. :)

Sit-ups DO NOT burn fat. They simply build the muscles, and they are very ineffective (do crunches if you want, they work a little better than sit-ups).

To get a flat stomach, you have to do some cardio workouts to be able to show off the muscle in your stomach, and its VERY hard to do.

SIT-UPS A DAY ARE NOT THE MOST EFFECTIVE ABDOMINAL EXERCISE. THERE IS A MUSCLE GROUP IN THE ABDOMEN THAT SIT-UPS IS ONLY PARTIALLY EFFECTIVE FOR. TO GET THE BEST REDUCTION OF THIS CORE OF MUSCLES USE THE AB LOUNGE, SEE:

0!!! I'm not saying to do no sit-ups, but they aren't the most effective exercise because they only really work one muscle group. The midsection is made for balancing, twisting and turning, so train it like that. Also, you won't get a flat stomach unless you eat less or increase cardio...anything to reduce calories. And make sure that you cut your trans fat intake...trans fat settles on the midsection.

You need to do about 1200 every day for 3 weeks. You will have a washboard stomach after you complete that rigourus 3 week session.
