We just adopted 2 new kitties. They are brother and sister. Why do they constantly try to nurse on each other? What can I do to stop this?

The animal shelter that we adopted them from said they had to be bottle fed because the mom weaned them too early. I hope it does stop!

That's normal for puppies and kittens, just move them apart so they don't damage one another! Baby animals taken from the mother to young seek the comfort of her warm body and the tranquility of the nursing action.Some 6-mo-year old dogs and cats will nurse on a paw or a rug or a pillow edge just like little children do with their binky or fingers-thumbs; for comfort.

wel lyou can't they were probably taken away from there mom to early or there mother was killed.try to give them some formula for a few weeks and start giving them less and less.as they grow older they will not do this anymore but they will probably play.

I have two boy cats that are not related at all. My tabby would try to nurse off my other one. And neither one would really care, i don't know why he did it but i would just seperate them when they would do that. They have stopped. But when i caught them i would make them stop or seperate them.

One of my males had that habit with his slightly-larger companion when they were small. I assumed it was because they were abandoned. I just made them break it up whenever I saw that happening, and they eventually seemed to grow out of it, no harm done.

They may have been separated from the mother cat too early. Just let them do it...won't hurt anything.

they dont know what to do they think of each other as the mother and are trying ro get milk

Twins often suck eachothers thumbs. Just bonding and comfort. Its normal don't worry. xx

they are missing nursing from their mother. some cats will do it on onther animals or on your neck. don't do anything they will get over it as they mature

isn't that incest? maybe because they don't have a mother to suck on.
