When the DKM Bismark went out on her fateful cruise, she sung the HMS Hood with one very well placed shot. A combination of bad design on the Hoods part and good luck on the Bismarks side. However after that initial engagement what happened to the Bismarks gunnery, it seems to have been totally ineffective after that.

The word is Naval. By the time the Bismarks guns were used against surface vessels again she had a problem with her rudder and could only steam in circles. Faced with a two sided attack she had to divide her fire while the other side could concentrate their fire in one direction. Also she was severly outnumbered.

It was a lucky shot that sunk the HMS Hood.

Thanks to a torpedo the Bismark's rudder was damaged and whilst the Captain tried to compensate by balancing the power to the screws he was forced to slow down.

Regardless of the fact they were the enemy their actions were heroic

As for the Bismark's guns, they kept up a massive rate of fire until they were neutralised

You don't have to sink a second ship, to get the point across that you know how to shoot. For the most part the British Navy stayed out of range and did a lot of chasing. The HMS Ark Royal sent her bi-planes on several torpedo runs that initially disabled her. After the combining of the North Atlantic Squadron and the Mediterranean Squadron she was just out numbered and out gunned.

Namsaev is correct. Also, after the Hood, the rumor of a huge battleship was confirmed as true and the British might sent their ships out to search and destroy the Bismarck.
