These factors increase your risk of bruxism:

Stress. Increased anxiety or stress can lead to teeth grinding. So can anger and frustration.
Age. Bruxism is common in young children, but usually goes away by age 10. In adults, the condition is common between the late teen years and the 40s. It tends to decrease with older age.
Caffeine, nicotine and other drugs. Using caffeine, tobacco, cocaine or amphetamines seems to increase the risk of bruxism.

In most cases, bruxism doesn't cause serious complications. But severe bruxism may lead to:
Damage to your teeth or jaw
Tension-type headaches
Facial pain
Temporomandibular disorders — which occur in the temporomandibular joints (TMJs), located just in front of your ears and felt when opening and closing your mouth

Most kids grow out of this by the age of 10, so I don't think there is much you can do if he won't wear the mouth guard. Some doctors will prescribe a muscle relaxant for the face to take before bed time, but since he is so young, i dont know if they will do that for him.

You HAVE to make him wear the gusrd, this will have serious impact on how his teeth grow in, both baby teeth and adult! No matter how much he fights you have got to make him wear it!!!!

What do you mean he won't? It's not up to him!! You need to get control over your child!! If you tell him to wear it, then he better wear it or else! I'd be taking him to the Dr., unelss of course you plan on letting him do whatever he wants, then why waste the money! You are the parent aren't you???
