okay so i accidentally put in vinegar instead of vegetable oil.. because i was on the phone and just grabbed the bottle with vegetables on it. i realized it after i was tasting the mix and it didn't taste that bad but i was wondering what the outcome will be like. i think it also made the mix fluffier because i had to use three pans opposed to two. help!

well the vegetables on the bottle led me to believe it was vegetable oil and it started with a 'v' so yeah haha. i just took it out of the oven, and number one it's basically glued to the pans, and number two it tastes worse than dirt. i'm pretty pissed because i really wanted cake haha.

thanks for the help though guys!

It should be OK.
The vinegar will only increase the action of the leavening--baking powder or baking soda, UNLESS you put a lot in there, in which will change the flavor of the cake.
Maybe you've discovered a new way to make a fluffy, delicious cake!
Good luck.

I'm sure the Vinegar mixed with the baking soda (large chemical reaction there) is the reason that you had to use three pans instead of two...however the vinegar would make the cake taste terrible, tthe lack of oil would make the cake crumbly, and not taste too good either.....throw away the batter and start anew

You still added the vegetable oil to it right???? If not and you haven't baked it yet, add it!! It is a necessary ingredient. I'm not sure what the vinegar will do to the taste. If it is a box mix, I'd toss it and start over.

True, you hastned the levening. The mix needs to rise at a steady rate in order to allow the glutens to set, therefore allowing it to stay fluffy. I think it will fluff and fall flat.

Even on the phone, you don't know vinegar from vegetable oil?

Ah the old science class trick, baking soda and vinegar, foam foam foam, it's not going to hurt anything, you just got one of the levening agents a kick start, hopfully not to early, get that cake into the oven fast, don't let it sit. Vinegar is used in cakes all the time

Did you bake it? If so how did it taste? I guess, if you haven't baked it yet it couldn't hurt to try. (just have another mix handy in case)
