Firstly - a lot of people wrongly assume that in order to meditate - you have to empty your mind. Nope - that's not how it works. Allow your mind to wander and OBSERVE your thoughts. Don't react to them or judge them, just watch your thoughts go by.

You're meditating. Aside from which - there is no such thing as failure during meditation and there is no failure at the level of the soul, so you're okay.

not able to concentrate during meditaion is normal for all starters intially..but dont be disappointed...after some time or after some practice..the mind will calm down..it is just the matter of time

Normal tendency of the mind is to flow outwards..means it is attracted by outside things rather than inside spiritual world...meditation first makes the mind pure....free it from thoughts and then it will tune it to the internal world...you can experience this after some months of practice....this is person dependent..i may develop it within few months and u may take years and vice versa...

But for a effective meditation...i will like to gv u a few tips...
1) select a room with good ventilation.
2)dont keep changing the place for the practise of meditaion.Select a single n permanent place...this is bcoz after some months of practice..that place will start generating positive vibrations..which will help the meditator as well as it reduces the negative things of the surrounding.
3)It is best if u can fix same time for ur practice daily..means if u r practising meditation at mor-5...then follow the same time daily.

and the most imp: If u hv learnt meditation by reading book..THEN PLS STOP...dont ever do tat...always learn from a able GURU.
but dont stop practicing!!

That is the secret to meditation. It is suposed to keep your mind focused.
It takes much practise but it is worth it. It reduces stress and gives your guides an avenue to speak to you. It can lower your blood pressure too. It is a great mental exercise and just like exercising the body you exercise the mind.

You need to bring you mind back to your blank meditative state everytime it wanders. Do it immediately. Dont allow it to wonder off on other subjects.
You can use a meditative CD, Soft flowing music, or use the same method to mediate (like if use the flower and some use the stream, the earth or the heartbeat) Find what works best for you. Stay with that subject until it works well. Then for variety you can try another avenue.
Work at it, you will be glad you did.

There always people say when we sit for Meditation our mind start wandering. Meditation is the way to control wandering, how they think that with very start you can control your wandering. With meditation your control mechanism will be activated and you can go on a journey. You can be YOGI without going out to JUNGLE with Meditation. First take a start

Mind is of wandering in nature. Only way to bypass the thoughts is to 'ignore them' Let any number of thoughts assail you. Be just an observer of the thoughts. Be a simple witness to the thought process. If you practise the above, thought process will be slowed down. Initially it will be a bit difficult to observe the mind since we generally identify ourselves with the body mind complex. By practise, you can definitely slow down the thought process. Mind can aid you in concentration and not in Meditation. For the meditation to become effective, mind has to be subdued and negated. Any conscious effort to subdue the mind will recoil upon you. For example, a mother accosts her child to feed. But the child will wander away from the mother as long as the mother follows the child. The moment the mother stop persuing the child, the child automatically turns back to seek its mother. Likewise so long as you follow the thought pattern, the thoughts will wander with more force. The moment you start observing the mind as a mere witness, thought process will slow down. Practise the above and learn the process. nagarajan.

First off, I've never "studied" meditation, so, right or wrong, this is just really what works for me.

When I try and meditate or try and focus on my spiritual reading, the same thing happens to me - I remember what activities need to be done, I get visions that just won't leave, etc. So, I have a pen and paper handy, so when something I need to do or some important thought comes into my head that just will not leave, I write it down and that gives me "permission" to let it go.

It works for me, it mights be worth a try.

for meditation you must find a peaceful place first of all if u get that then u have to concentrate on not to think anything & thats the great stuff where everybody fails. so try to breathe deeply as much as u can so that ur mind wont wander farther that works then for some days u have to do such way u'll get further ideas automatically dont worry abt this thing just breathe deeply as much as u can

Darwin, those are the questions i often ask myself. how do u just sit and meditate when you have a thousand thoughts, and a thousand questions in mind. These days, where I live, its all ''in fashion'', I simply do not believe that pple do get some comfort from it, probably some do, but, for me its..unacceptable, until you are ready.

You should be ready for it. Not simply because someone told you to meditate, but ready as in when you are calm, peaceful, and you do not have thoughts running in your mind...if it works, great, good luck, but i suggest, for myself and you, let us get our mind calm and then think of yoga or meditation...or else, its just b...s..t

Because you don't know why, and on what, and what for in particular, you are meditating. Decide first your definite goal than gather all information regarding, including particular points of meditation.
