so i'm a freshman in high school, and i'm very well known around school because my brother is the star running back on the football team. I met this girl and i really like her. i think about her constantly, but sometimes i'm afraid to show my feelings because i'm pretty popular and everyone expects me to date other popular girls and this girl is not popular, but the more i got to know her, the more i wish i could be with her. what should i do?

You should stop worrying about what others think of you, and if it will be a bad mark on your "rep".
If you like the girl, ask her out and say to hell with what anyone else thinks about it.

This is probably one of the most insulting questions ever asked. If you like her, ask her out. Why should other people dictate who you date? It's HIGH SCHOOL for God's sake. In 4 years, whether you were popular in high school isn't going to matter a single bit but you could end up being pissed off at yourself for not asking someone out that you could have had a chance with.
If i were her, and i knew you had considered asking me out because of what other people thought, i'd say no anyway.

absolutely, 100% ask her out. being a freshman in high school, it's hard for you to understand this. but, to live your life making OTHERS happy usually end in you being miserable. be true to yourself. if you like this girl, who cares what anyone else thinks. if they are your true friends, it won't affect them negatively. the one thing you don't want to live with is regret. the "how different would my life be if....?"
