Weapons are tools, before using them, you should train and become somewhat proficient. Also, you must consider the state or country you live in and what the laws are regarding the carrying of weapons.

Some of the simplest items can be converted into weapons. I believe someone before me mentioned a fan and walking stick/cane. These are good. I onve read a book abou self-defense a long time ago and it mentions the following:
1. a pen (point out) gripped between your middle and ring finger makes an excellent improvised dagger.
2. have a key ring? slide a key in between each finger (pointer-middle, middle-ring, ring-pinky) and you've just made an improvised mace.
3. loose change or a roll of pennies/dimes etc. cupped by your fist adds a little extra umph to your punches.
4. an umbrella can be used as a sword.
5. even a rolled up newspaper can be used.

However, the most important weapon is your mind. With it you can defuse a situation or you can use it to best defend yourself.

Since I worked at a sword/ martial arts shop 4 three years I DO LOVE MY WEAPONS!!! But, first it must be something that you can carry ( a sword is not a good idea), and second must be something that you are familiar with, and trained with. My favorite is a balisong (butterfly knife) because that was my first and best weapon. You can use it like a kubaton, and even perform wrist and finger locks with it, or it can be as deadly as any other knife, but alas it is illegal. What I do carry though is a 3 and 3/4 inch folder knife and a manriki chain ( ninja weapon, 2 and one half foot chain with 2 Lb weights on the ends) Which I use as my key chain and is legal as long as is used as such, simular to a monkey paw. Be sure to check the state laws, and if you need anything let me know I still get a good discount.

im not much 4 weapons.... if they disarm you expect em 2 use it on u and if u have a weapon in your right hand.. they will be more brutal.. ur focus will be on ur right hand and u may get overconfident..... but if i would haf 2 chose it would b a pocket knife.... concealable and legal... well depending on the blade legnth and what you do with it and where you are... but depending on ur mood u can just cut em or stab em if u feel so inclined.... but if its life and death some one must die..... pft a silenced gun and a knife

Self Defense is all about surviving. If your attacker has a weapon you better use one too.

The walking stick!

It's the one martial arts weapon (other than the fan) that you can openly carry and use without fear of being arrested.

My favorite: Bow and arrow. I'm into the "Middle Ages" and stuff where the elves and the "Creepers" used bows.
