Bring everything you got in the mail that says "Tax Information" on it, such as W-2's and 1099's of any type. It's better to bring something that you DON'T need than to be missing something.

If you receive social security, bring the SSA-1099 statements you received of last year's benefits. If you don't receive social security, be sure to bring along your social security card or a copy of it. Your SSA-1099 can be used to verify your social security number - otherwise the preparer uses the card to verify the ss#.

Social security cards or copies, and birth dates, for any dependents that you have.

Records of any estimated payments that you made, and dates when they were made.

Bring a copy of last year's return.

If you have any stock sales, bring along the information on what your basis it - check with your broker if you don't know. This is normally what you paid for it, but can be more if you've been reinvesting dividends.

Your checkbook if you want to have your refund, if any, deposited.

Detail of itemized deductions if you might have enough to itemize. The more organized this info is, the easier it will be to complete your return.

Taking the various items OUT of their mailing envelopes before you go is helpful to the preparer.
