Once the blood mixes with the embalming chemicals, it becomes basically harmless. The laws allow them to put the blood down the normal sanitary sewer drains in the preparation room sink as it does not pose a health risk.

Well before blood products became so hazardous due to Hepatitis A, B, C, and HIV/AIDS blood went down a drain the floor, now it is collected and disposed of as Hazardous waste. A great source that tells about the whole process is

None of these answers are correct. No where in the entire United States is the blood collected and diposed of via Biohazardous Waste. It all goes down the drain, just as any other waste does. It is in no way, shape or form collected. It goes down the drain.
