It depends. If it is set up, as the modern-day American Protestant Evangelicals use it, as a "paper pope" (Sola Scriptura was unheard of for the first 1,500 years of Christianity) - one might come to that conclusion.
Scripture, tradition and reason. Three cornerstones to a good theology.

It IS the WORD of God that is important. The Bible is just the book the words happen to be in. If your hung up on making the book a shrine then perhaps you are wrong. Most folks who really get into the book seriously probably unintentionally abuse the book itself & need to replace it from time to time. Who worships a book ? really???

It's a book that is God-breathed....and God inspired.
(2 Timothy 3:16-17 & 2 Peter 1:21)
Edit:
gkltdd....Did you expect me to use a secular resource to explain my answer? There is nothing more genuine than scripture. It's the most reliable source (outside of the Holy Spirit) that we have.

Nope, it's not. We don't worship the Bible. We worship God. We accept the Bible as containing the Word of God.

Do you believe the newspaper? The answer is Jesus is the Living Word of God. In the psalms it says that God elevates His word above His very name.
