I just got a new dog from the dog pound. I am not sure what she is or how old she is but I can tell she's still a puppy. I can tell that she has been abused by the way she acts. So I don't want to be to mean to her when she pees or poops in my house. I take her outside every couple hours but she won't do it out there!! How can I get her to go outside?????

I keep her on a retractable leash when I take her out. She finally went to the bathroom outside! We were inside and I seen her getting ready to poo in my floor so I said no and gave her a lil spat on the butt and got her outside. We were out there for maybe 15 min. and she finally went. She also went this morning! So I think she is going to catch on! But now I have another problem, she keeps chewing everything up!! She completly destroyed my new cell phone charger!!!! And a few other things. But I couldn't get on to her bc she did it a long time before I seen it and I knew she wouldn't know what she did. Any suggestions?

well you seem to have the bathroom bit well on the way to being perfected! good for you. i know a lot of people believe in using crates, but we never have, and we never have had any problems training our dogs. crates just seem to mean to me. but thats just me......as i said lots of people believe in them.
as for chewing issues get him some toys....lots of toys and chew treats.........
we have a little bucket of toys and balls for our little guy to play with. i change them around every few days so he never gets too bored with the same ones.
we also have a variety of chew treats, ie: pigs ears, beef strips, rawhide strips for him to chew on. but you also have to realize he is just a baby and you can't leave stuff laying about. he is curious and will go after anything left around. so you have to clean up, at least until he is older and better able to resist tempation.
our little guy also loves having a 'baby' to play with. i went to a neighbor and got one of her youngster's old stuffed bears and gave it to fido. well he loves it.....plays with it....sleeps with it.....throws it around.....it keeps him amused for ages.
and one last thing.....we bought a puppet. a hand puppet that looks like a dog and we play with the dog and the puppet! boy he really enjoys it.
good luck with your new little friend!
cheers!

The best way is to contain her in an area where you would be okay with her going. When you take her out, make sure you take her for a good 30min walk and the second she starts to go, get super excited and praise her like she just found the cure for cancer. When she goes to the bathroom inside, clean it up and simply say "no", pointing to it. Do not punish her. Try to keep track of her schedule, so you know when she might need to go, this can help drastically. If you feed her on a schedule, you might want to take her out a few minutes after she eats.
Also, DO NOT punish her if you don't catch her in the act. She won't relate the two. When you catch her then jump around and yell and startle her to make her stop, and quickly take her to where you want her to go. This helps her learn faster.

Crate Training also works very well....

Take her out every hour, instead of every two hours. Take her out the minute she wakes up, after playing and eating. If she refuses to go after being out for 15 minutes, put her in the crate and try again after 20 minutes. Also, take her out on leash so you can keep her focused on what she's out there to do. Take a treat with you as well, and praise and give a treat when she goes. If she goes inside, clean up the mess and take it outside and show it to her. Then tell her good girl, she'll get the hint eventually.

you are correct in not being mean to her, it sounds like she has never been trained to go outside and if she has been in a kennel they have told her it is OK to do it in the house, i think you should just per sever and clean up the mess but praise her a lot if she goes outside maybe even reward her with a dog treat if she goes outside and this will encourage her to do what you want, she will do it in the end you just need to keep training her, hope this is off some help.

Crate training is the best way. I adopted a 7 month old dog a few years ago and it only took 2 weeks using crate training. Go to petsmart, tell them the size of your dog and they will point you out to the proper size.

You are definately going to have to use a leash. Use what the others said above and remember to give a LOT of praise when she does go outside. Positive reinforcement is the best way to go!!

choose greater documents even nevertheless curiously like Roxie is dominating the pug. utilising the bathing room is likewise a skill of marking territory. I even have 2 labs and after one is going the different is attainable in at the back of her and makes use of the comparable spot to conceal the others sent. That a variety of dominace. sounds like Roxie is taking it to the intense. P.S. Mine are the two women people so its no longer basically men that do it.

Since you don't know where she came from , it is possible she thinks she is supposed to go inside. So, taking her out won't help. She will just wait until you bring her in. Since she is a puppy, tie her out where you can see her and leave her. She will go sooner or later. Then the habit of going only inside will be broken.

If she is going in the house she is off your schedule and your not leaving her outside long enough. Take her outside first thing when you get up. Give her only enough to get her by til you get home and then take her out.. when you get home....leave her till you see her do her duties then praise her then bring in and feed...take her out about 30-45 min later....do this til you get her on your schedule.

Maybe she is used to being on a leash when she pees? Maybe she is paper trained and looking for newspaper? If you can figure out or find out what she is used to, you can slowly get her to just go when she goes out.
