For some reason, I thought I had to attach everything to my return. But Turbo Tax told me I only have to attach the W2's. Do I need to attach copies of my interest earned 1099's, my 1099Misc, and my Unemployment compensation. All of these forms did not have a copy attached for my federal return. Do I make a copy and attach, or not. I did get a 1099 copy for my state return, and attached that, but not one for my Federal return.
Please only answers from people that know the answer. Thanks in advance. I am waiting to mail, till I get an answer.

You only attach the 1099's if they showed Federal Tax withheld, otherwise keep them for your records

All you attach to your Form 1040 is the W-2, and any other documents that indicate federal withholding (withheld). Do not attach 1099's without federal withholding, and
never attach Form 1099-Misc. The same applies for your state return; only attach your
state copy of Form W-2, and any other documents that show state withholding.
In 1993 Congress passed the Paperwork Reduction Act to preclude taxpayers sending in documents that are totally unnnecessary.

You are supposed to receive only the Copy B of the 1099-INT for earned interest, which bears at the bottom the note "Keep for your records". Same thing happens with 1099-MISC and 1099-G. These forms come in three copies, and copy A, in red ink is sent by the payer to the IRS already. So you shouldn't send these forms to the IRS when you file. I can't guarantee, but it would be lame if the bottom note is not correct.

I'll second what Rob has written.
Attach all W-2s and any Forms 1099 if they have federal tax withheld.

I worked in a CPA office for many years - you only have to attach the W2 to your tax returns. Keep the 1099's and other documents on file with your tax return for a minimum of 7 years.
You shouldn't have to attach the 1099 to your state return ; just the W2.

You do not have to attach any 1099's. Only W-2's from your employer. If you're doing your taxes on-line, you fill out a W-2 and your return is competely paperless. You can do your Federal and State returns at the same time.

Usually you are only required to attach W2's and any special1099 like lottery or gambling winnings because the IRS will get a copy from the source to compare with.

Do you submit the worksheets that TurboTax prints out with your return or just the return itself.
