iron supplements and iron rich foods will do it for you. Also, eating a lot of black frosting (children's cakes are famous for this!) will cause your stool to appear black.
Now, if your stool continues to be black, even after cutting back on iron rich foods, then there could be some internal bleeding, but we'll just assume that you're eating a lot of spinach lately, right?

NONE! The only thing that makes black fecal matter is blood. If you are having this problem SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY! You may have a GI bleed, which can be life threatening! (Iron can occasionally cause this, but its very rare.)
