If you haven't had a period for a year, something is wrong and you have to go and see a doctor ASAP, no one on here will have a full proof answer for you since we don't know your medical history and it could be caused my a # of things. Please go and see a doctor. Just because you haven't had a period for this long does not mean you cannot ever have kids. Your friends don't know what they are talking about, but a doctor will go and see one. Your mom needs to start acting like a mom and make the appoinment. It only takes a few minutes so if she is not doing it, either she is lazy or you haven't asked her to make it. You don't need your card to make the appointment, only when you go to the doctors you need the card. So get your insurance card off your mom and go see a doctor. I can't believe your mom said she doesn't have time to make you an appoinment, thats aweful!

Do you mean not even spotting? If you've been at least spotting with no cramps then you might just have a very light period. If you haven't had anything, then you need to get to a doctor now. Does your mom know it's been a year? I would be shocked if she knew and didn't make some sort of arrangement for you. You need to be checked for things like cysts etc. Get the card from your mother, make the appointment on your own and either call a cab or find a teacher or friends parent who can take you. This is nothing to be ashamed about and you need to know it's okay to talk about it with someone you trust. If you haven't told your mother yet, tell her!!! Again, don't feel embarrassed or ashamed b/c it has to do with menstruation. It's your body and you only get one so please take care of it.
Oh, and do NOT listen to your friends. Most infertile women do have normal periods and there are many reasons for infertility. Your friends need to go back to sex ed. and learn how a woman's body works!!!!
P.S. You'll need to take the card with you to the appointment and also make sure the doctor's office takes your insurance...you can ask the receptionist. Or, you can always go to a free clinic...just look it up on the internet or yellow pages.

It depends how old you are. If you know for sure that you could never have been pregnant and are in your teens and were relatively new to having periods before they stopped it might not neccessarily be anything to worry about as they can be really irratic at first. A friend of mine had her first period and then nothing for about a year. BUT, you must go to the Drs because we can't tell you a thing with any certainty on here. Only a Dr will be able to solve this mystery.

my daughter has the same problem. She got her period when she was 11 and is now 15. She has never had a consistant period and I have take her to the doctor.
Here is what we've been told:
1. it is normal for a period not to be consistant for the first couple of years
2. You can get on the pill to make it normal but that only is just to make it more convienant for you to know when your period will be
3. You can just let it be and get on the pill 1-2 years before you try to conceive if you think you are having problems conceiving.
My opinion is that the pill is not the solution. Getting on it early would mean being on it possilby for a long period. I was on it for a very long time before trying to conceive and I found it hard to conceive but it also varies person to person. Because I know people who have been on it for a long time and could get pregnant right away.
I think you will be fine. Your only solution is to get on the pill. A year is a long time though. my duaghter would go like 6 months. I would maybe have them give you medicine to get it started. If you just got it don't worry about it cuz the first year she idnd' tget it for almost a year.

You can make an appointment and get a hold of your insurance card or request a copy. It's quite simple.

I would speak to my mother, or maybe go to a GUM clinic or somewhere that's free. It may be due to weight loss, or if your young your periods may not have regulated yet. You should definatley speak to a doctor rather than having yourself so worried! Maybe if you speak to your mum or another adult you trust about how worried an upset you arre they'll help make an appiontment!

12 months is a very long time to be pregnant as you are only preggers for 9 months....could be something else..it would be wise to get to the doctors in case something is seriously wrong, but it could be nothing.
How old are you?
