Hello, I am thinking about purchasing a Canon SD600 digital camera. I currently have a Sony Cybershot with Sony memory cards. Can these cards be used for Canon cameras as well, or do I have to purchase Canon-specific memory cards? Thank you for your help!

The SD600 only uses SD memory cards, which are not compatible with Sony's Memorystick.

The camera can accept a maximum of a 2GB SD card...but 1GB is probably adequate. You can use any brand of SD card (but do not use a standard speed card). I would recommend that you use a high speed card such as Sandisk Extreme III (they have a lifetime warranty)...for fast camera performance.

If shooting high resolution movies, remember that these movies consume 1GB in only 8 minutes.

Unfortunately no, you won't be able to use a Memory Stick Pro (or Pro Duo) on the Canon SD600. That model takes SD cards.

The good news, though, is that SD cards are extremely cheap. A 1 GB card usually runs (go to OfficeMax, Circuit City, Best Buy, or somewhere like that) about $15-$20. SD cards are just about the cheapest memory card format these days, aside from CompactFlash.

You can't use a Sony memory stick with Canon cameras. The SD600 uses a SD card. I suggest that you get the fastest Sandisk or Lexar brand SD card that you can.

Here's a good blog post that gives some details and good links for all the information you'll need:

I just bought the SD600 a couple weeks ago, and love it. I bought a Kingston 2 gb SD card and reader from newegg.com for $20 + shipping. They actually have some other 2gb for $14, but I have used Kingston for a while and trust them.

warning warning possibility of Flames heavily Canon as against Nikon is a case of very equivalent combatants.. whilst one improves slightly the different tries to get extra acceptable back etc. in short the two are equivalent.. circulate to a save carry the digital camera.. verify the situation of the buttons. See the type you individually experience with the digital camera. locate the digital camera for YOU.. YOU .. particular YOU.. in case you purchase a digital camera yet are actually not pleased with ways it works.. nicely that would not be clever applicable. So heavily circulate to a digital camera shop and carry the cameras..
