I know farts generally stink, but sneezes carry vile germs and bacteria, so why are you damned for one and blessed for the other? I've had people get pretty upset over some passed gas, but are the first to say "bless you!" when you sneeze near them. Does that make sense?

It makes "SENSE" to a persons sense of smell to Bless a sneezer and damn a farter!!

When a person sneezes it is common for someone to say "God Bless you" (or just "Bless you") because it was once believed that when one sneezed, the heart stops, the soul leaves the body and could be snatched by an evil spirit.

When a person farts it is generally considered unsuitable and it may be considered vulgar or offensive because farts usually smell terrible. Since many people make themselves fart with the purpose of annoying others, people do get upset about a fart because they don't know if the fart will smell and/or if a person did it on purpose or not!!!!!

Well for one, most of us are able to control our farts as in letting one fly when in a more appropriate area. On the other hand we have no control over sneezing.

People are weird either way. I personally dont care for either. I dont say bless you or w/e people tend to say when someone farts. As you said both are natural bodily functions.

Of course not, and it doesn't follow the rules of etiquette, either.

One is assumed not to be in control of flatulence. Anyone saying or doing anything to draw attention to it, including the "culprit," is incredibly rude. Everyone is supposed to politely pretend that nothing happened.

People who get upset over flatulence are rude boors.

Of course, if you feel gas coming on, it would also be polite to excuse yourself for the restroom. But again, if a flatulence accident happens, it happens. No harm done.

I don't make the rules, but I know about them!

Even if a fart doesn't smell consider where the thing came from. Who wants to suck up air that comes out your bum-hole?
