I have a 2 year old male neutered chihuahua. I have him litter trained because we live in a cold area and he is very tiny, so he doesn't go outside to do his business. This is a new problem, about the past 6 months, and I don't know what tp do. We are going to be moving soon, and I don't want him to pee in the new house. Any suggestions? And how about getting the smell permenately gone?

Make him wear leg weights. They sell some new spray called urine -b-gone or something like that check at your local pet store or grocery store.

I was going to suggest a belly band but he should be going to the litter box when ever he feels like it, so that won't work (all mine are trained to go outside). Okay, so another suggestion would be to put him on a leash attached to you. You are going to have to remember to get him to his box every so often to do a real potty. When he does, praise him and give him treats. If you have the chance before moving into your new house, clean all the carpets with an enzyme cleaner like Zero Odor or something like Kids N Pets. Once you have that done, wash all the hard surfaces you think he might have even looked sideways at (chair legs, table legs, etc) with a vinegar solution and use the emzyme cleaner on upholstered surfaces Bring him in after everything is dry and clean smelling (you might want to even spray a bit of Febreeze over everything for good measure).

I have found that a move is often enough to "reset" the peeing in the house thing. Do you have a vertical surface in the litter box for him to pee on? You might want to set up secondary surfaces for now (you know put something in his litter box like a stone or a bottle of some kind and then move them to various places around the house) so he has other "legal" targets.

Nature's Miracle and Simple Solution are both wonderful for this. They are enzymatic so they don't just cover the smell like most other cleaners.

When you get to the new place, steam clean the carpets with one of the products I mentioned incase a dog in the past had the same problem. Smelling it will just make him start again.... also, when you first move in, restrict him to a small room with his litter box whenever you can't watch him and slowly give him more time out as he proves himself trustworthy. If that doesn't work- crate train him.

yes, permanantly removing the smell is likely to help. if you are moving house he wont be able to smell previous urine so he wont do it, just make sure he never does it in new house or he will continue. also have more than 1 litter tray. chihuahuas have tiny bladders and cant hold water for long.

Spray all around your new house location with some bug spray. Dogs have sensitive noses and that should turn him off.Worth a try.
