My daughter is 7 weeks and 2 days old and I still haven't had a period. I did have light bleeding last Tuesday and it was only lasted that day. I have two sons and my period returned at 6 weeks with both of them and it was quite painful and heavy. I did have unprotected sex a couple of weeks ago but we used the rythem method.

When I was taking my first Biology lab course in college, the teaching assistant was leading a section about the female reproductive cycle. She got into methods of birth control and mentioned the rhythm method. Then she asked, "What do we call people who use the rhythm method?" Someone shouted, "Catholics!" to which everyone laughed. She quickly cut everyone off and shouted back, "Parents!". She went onto explain that the Female menstruation period was unpredictable, therefore making the rhythm method unreliable.

My sister was using the rhythm method when she conceived her third child.
My wife had some very light bleeding early in her pregnancy with our twins that probably signified the implantation of the fertilized eggs into the uterine wall.

Might want to do a pregancy test and/or visit your doctor.

It depends on whether or not you are breastfeeding, first of all. I didn't breastfeed my first two kids for very long and my period returned after about 8-10 weeks. My youngest son is 6 months and I am still breastfeeding and haven't yet had a period. Either way I would avoid unprotected sex. I got pregnant with my youngest son when my daughter was only 3 months old (after only 1 period) and I have heard of people who have gotten pregnant even while they were breastfeeding or had no period.
