I am asking b/c my older two kids have colds and I have a new baby that I don't want to get infected. They are not to touch him while they are sick, but I am afraid that I am going to spread it to him. I spray doornobs with lysol, wash towels freq. and TRY to have everyone use their own towel, but these are 8 and 6 year olds! They don't ALWAYS listen. Also, I can't spray the doornob 100 times a day..lol..
The antibacterial foams/gels are great, but I can't use them on the baby, only myself and the kids.
Thanks

The length of time that cold and flu viruses can survive outside body on an environmental surface varies greatly. But the suspected range is from a few seconds up to 48 hours, depending on the specific virus and the type of surface.

Flu viruses tend to live longer on surfaces than cold viruses. Also,it is generally believed that cold and flu viruses survive for longer periods on nonporous surfaces----such as plastic, metal or wood----than they do on porous surfaces----such as fabric or paper.

Although cold and flu viruses primarily spread from person-to-person contact, they can also spread from contact with contaminated objects or surfaces. The best way to avoid becoming infected with the cold or flu virus is to wash your hands frequently with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

Other tips for staying healthy during cold and flu season include:

1) Get a flu shot. This is one of the most effective ways to prevent flu.
2) Regularly clean your desk, phone and computer keyboard and mouse----at home and at the office----with disinfectant sprays or wipes.
3) Stay at home if you're sick.Don't expose others to your germs by dragging yourself to the office, theater or PTA meeting.

OK,So
Don't worry about cold virus we are much stronger than them.Bye.Take Care.

The cold germ is easily spread... You can buy stuff at the drug store / chemist to rub on your hands to protect you from the cold germ.

Vicks - first defence foam - its great stuff. Kills the cold germ on your hands last for a few hours or until you wash your hands so you need to then re apply.

I don't use any one else's towel and I use a paper towel when I use a door nob.
