that is exactly what i am. i will never lock myself into any religion, but i also will never lock myself out either. i can learn from everyone around me and if i only think i am right, i will miss out on a lot of information

They may learn they are wrong. The majority of people would rather "believe" they are right than research and possibly find out there are other "truths" in the Universe.
Most people would rather feel comfortable within their own little worlds, follow what their parents believed, not question, and believe what they are told, rather than actually take the time to prove subjects to themselves.
Most people are too shallow in their thinking and don't like to "rock the boat" of their own comfortable existence. They are too involved with everyday living and believing in their own ego's to search "outside the box."

You have to have some belief to test first. Even in the scientific method you start with a hypothesis (or what you think it is), and then you have to come up with your testing method.
The thing is, it's kind of hard to figure out how to empirically test spiritual things, so, naturally, a lot folks end up stuck on the hypothesis step - at least for now.

That's a good question. Even Jesus hung around the sinners and different religious groups not only to heal and preach the gospel but to socialize and create a bond to bring across truth.

Religion teaches its members to have and live by faith. Not by the reality of the world that surrounds us. As members of a religion they can then do all the atrocities that religions are famous for.

i think its because people are generally afraid of change. they are already set in their ways, they arent looking for the truth, they are looking to keep their life the same.
imo the only way u can learn more is to question.

ego.
Most people start with the premise that they are right and everybody else is wrong. Their intent is not to learn but to defend their own ego.

PEOPLE BELIEVE WHAT THEY WANT TO BELIEVE. THEY BELIEVE WHATEVER MAKES THEM COMFORTABLE AND HAS NO OR LESS CONSTRAINTS. WHATEVER STROKES THEIR EGO.
