My Australian Shepherd cut his back toe pretty bad a couple of weeks ago. I took him to the vet twice because he ripped his stitches (even with a cone). The 3rd time he did it he got all the stiches out and he "chewed" his own pad to a size that could not be restitched. I was told that his pad would grow back by a friend but I would like a second opinion. I really can't afford to take him back to the vet again for him to tell me to keep doing what I all ready have been....keeping it clean & wrapped, peroxide, triple antibac. ointment etc. It seems to be doing well and not infected. I also have him on oral antibiotics. The sides of his toe seem to be closing in around the exposed flesh...pretty gross but I want to make sure his actual pad will grow back and this toe will heal. what else can I do? Thank you.

Pads grow back from the inside out...just keep clean and do waht vet told you to do and it will be ok. I had an Aussie that cut the pad of her foot and it took for ever for it to heal

My g/f was coming home from a day at the park w/ our two dogs. As she was leaving the park the puppy (ESS) decided he wasn't done playing so he jumped out of the Jeep and was dragged for half block b-4 my g/f was told about the puppy. Long story short he roughed up all 4 paws and was stitched up and all for a good month and a half. He's 10 months old now and his paw pads are all looking good and came back nicely. I'm sure your dogs will too. All you can do is keep his paw out of his mouth and keep it dry, use the sedatives for when you are not around.

That happened to one of my friends dogs once. He fell on a stair and ripped ALL of his pads off poor thing. They did grow back though. Probably in a month or so. No worries. Keep doing what your vet says, and make sure it doesn't get infected. Good luck and your dog is in my prayers!

My canine is a million/2 Poodle and a million/2 Terrier. His outer coat is a Terriers yet, his undercoat is all poodle. The hair is so nice that it mats in simple terms from him laying down. I take him in to get groomed because of the fact i'm afraid to even attempt it. i've got desperate to in basic terms keep his hair short any further so he would not mats. The mats get tied up so very on the element of the exterior that it takes the groomer longer to do him than different canines because of the fact of his hair. I pay $10.00 extra advantageous than my buddy who has a Cocker Spaniel.

They will heal. It's most important to make sure they stay clean now to prevent infection and malformation during healing.
