I know so many, older single women with kids that are racing to have the best of life they can grasp for themselves and for their families! Most are divorced and with no regrets. What gets us is the stigma attached to us, the wierd assumptions about us and the
efforts people still make to keep us in that stereotype.

Most of the women I know have worked hard and had it a rough. Sometimes they have had to be on assistance but that isn't where they wanted to stay!

They are not chasing around looking for a free ride by marrying for money, remarrying out of lonliness or sleeping around. We work, we go back to school, we have careers, most of us are strapped for cash but we like our independence. We don't have alimoney cheques and some of us don't even get child support, or very little.

We want a future that's looking good! We don't have retirement savings most of us iether! So cut us some slack when we are out to get the good jobs and the education. We earned it.

So, what's your point?

What stigma? I had a number of older women in my MBA flow during grad school. Some married, some not. No one said anything about it; they were just other class/team/flow members.

My dear Jamie,
I can feel the anger in your question and I can thoroughly agree
with you. It's totally unfair that single moms are all stuffed into
one category, because ALL are different. (..that's like saying all
soda pops are Cokes-they're not!..) I once dated a lovely lady
for two and a half months before she told me about her son. I
didn't mind it at all. As a matter of fact, that made me feel even
more special towards her. So, stick to your dignity, and pretty
soon, a nice young man will see your real value.
Hang in there, Jamie.

I don't have a problem with older Women at all, and fail to see why you say that they are being pigeon holed? Most of them that I know are very happy in their life and proud of their accomplishments. Yes! They have a right to be proud of it because they didn't sit around and moan oh poor me, but got up and out there and did something good for themselves!
