I have been reading lately about how foods are processed. I had no idea about meat and dairy, and how unsanitary it is. I had no idea about genetically modified food. I had no idea how dangerous chemicals, pesticides, and artificial dyes and flavors are. Now, I am grossed out, and not quite sure what to eat. I consider myself to be intelligent, and wonder how I could have hit middle age without having clue about the foods I was eating. I am asking this to see if I am the only one who didn't know. For those of you who KNOW the truth about how nasty our food supply is, do you ignore it, or what do you do about it?

As "nasty" as you think our food is today, you should use your common sense to realize how much better it than it used to be! Read "The Jungle" by Upton Sinclair, and contrast that with the way meat is farmed today!
There may well have been MORE crap in the food supply 100 years ago, but then there were no requirements to label products accurately!
You shouldn't worry so much. Enjoy your life. Whatever you eat you are going to die eventually anyway, you may as well have a good time!
Bon appetit!

I knew it and switched to organically grown and raised foods. They are healthier and don't contain all the chemicals and hormones like the regular ones. I don't eat fast food either, or chemical foods like coolwhip, velveta, etc. I get real sick when I eat them so I've known for a long time now. I also can't handle artificial sweetners. My urologist said the body doesn't know what to do with it, it can't process it like real sugar. It actually can make sores in your bladder. They put chemicals in our foods to make us eat more and make them rich. They are also making us fat by doing that. It's all greed, it's all about the money and they don't care if we are healthy, but we have to care if we are healthy and eat the right foods. I have always made home cooked healthy meals for my family. They are healthy, happy, and not overweight. They have very good eating habits as well. I never bought junk food or soda for my kids. Too bad more parents don't care about their and their childrens health.

You know, none of are going to get out of this life alive, so I'm not going to spend too much time worrying. I think if we all are sensible about what we eat we'll be OK. You think things are unsanitary and unsafe now?? Try living 200 years ago...100 years ago. The very fact that humans are enjoying much longer, healthy lives attests to the fact we're doing something right!

Are you healthy? Is your hair falling out? Do your gums bleed and teeth drop out when you cough? How about your skin tone? Does it crack and peel in sheets or are you breaking out in pustules? The point is you and billions of other people have been eating food processed this way for decades and decades. If anything, the food processing system has gotten cleaner and safer with government regulations. So go ahead and pound down that Big Mac, eat eggs, eat wheat, drink gallons of milk. You'll be fine, along with the rest of us.

You try to eat food as close to its natural state as possible. Use vinegar to wash your fruit's and veggies. Then eat them Raw. Don't eat packaged or fast food, and get to know your additives. Study which additives have been known to cause the most problems also figure out their "code names". Many manufactures use several different names for sugar for example. Education is the key.If your interested I did a study on food additives in collage. I could email you my papers. They all have references.

I try to ignore it. I heard about the inhumane condition that they have the chickens that they use to make KFC living in.
If I am to follow all of what I hear, I would be eating leaves from trees, and that too might not be healthy based on the high level of air pollution.

we do know what kind of food we consume everyday, bad or good. we kind of 'pretend' not to notice it is bad, since it is pretty costly to have balance and good food nowadays. what choice do we have? i once went to a 'healthy food' cafe and i dont think i can afford to pay for that price everyday. now almost everything from our supermarket milk to eggs that we eat is being chemically processed. it is sad and scary but that is the price you pay to live in a modern world.

First of all, I don't buy food without reading the label. The rule of thumb is: If you don't know what an ingredient is, then don't eat it- could be poison.

The most important thing you can do is: Read the label!
What I do is, read the label, if there is anything, anything at all that I can not pronounce, I don't eat it. Eat only real food.
