The only thing you can do is to use a good moisturizing cream such as cocoa butter to keep the skin as supple as possible. This won't prevent them altogether but will help with the surface of the skin.

Here's a helpful page on it too for further info

Here's another page from Babycentre - a really helpful website right up until baby becomes a toddler.

Unfortunately some people are more prone to them than others. It can depend on how rapidly the skin stretches, so if you all of a sudden get really big, then your skin may get more stretch marks.

However, it must be said that dry skin damages more easily than moist skin, so a good cream or oil may help limit the damage. I used Clarins 'Huile tonic'. It smells lovely and, although expensive, it was my one indulgence when pregnant. Bio oil is very good too. I never tried cocoa butter, but it is something I have heard of as worth trying.

By the way, the red will fade in time and you will be left with silver lines, which don't look half as bad.

Get rid of Stretch Marks?

Stretch marks are like scars, you can't exercise them away. But you can use a stretch mark cream with cocoa butter to keep them from getting worse. Palmer's seems to be the preferred brand.

And don't stress too much, they do fade over time.

The main thing is to drink plenty of water, also get a scrub for when your in the shower or bath and use a body brush, then the best oil i have found is bio oil it is good for stretch marks. Also regular excersise. I'm sure you'll find doing all the above will help tremendously.

there is no way to reduce or eliminate stretch marks. to prevent more from appearing try cocoa butter oil made by palmers. also u can try strivectin (can get at nordstrom, macys etc) am not sure if it is safe in pregnancy though. also weight training by increasing muscle mass helps mask the marks. and also eat healthy, light exercise and try not to gain too much weight too fast with the pregnancy.

no amount of diettin will get rid of stretchmarks there is a product u can buy that will reduce the appearance of them its called bio-oil u can buy this from boots. it costs about 15 quid for 60ml in other words use it sparingly. i have got stretch marks and scars both which are fadin. but both will come back on me with a vengence as i am pregnant now. i would have thought carin about the precious baby in ur womb was more interestin than botherin about ur stretchmarks.

ok, first of all try walking to the chemist...nice way to burn calories.
Then buy some Palmer's cocoa butter (the one for stretch marks) then walk back and vigorously apply the cocoa butter to your skin. (burning off more calories)

After the birth, when you feel ready to do exercise try doing some pilates type exercises before going straight into the gym.

Don't worry though, they can disappear I trained a lot of clients back to firmness after babies :o)

Bub baby oil in your legs. if you are quite far in your pregnancy you probabely shouldn't start any new excercise unless you are pretty fit already. When you've had your baby and are recovered you can do lunges. hold a light weight dumbell in each hand, one or two kg, Lunge forward with first leg. Land on heal then forefoot. Lower body by flexing knee and hip of front leg until knee of rear leg is almost in contact with floor. Return to original standing position by forcibly extending the hip and knee of the forward leg. Repeat by alternating lunge with opposite leg.

There aren't any exercises that'll get rid of them but depending on how they look a dermatologist can give you advice on making them less noticeable. If they are dark marks, they can be lightened. Depending on the number that you have, you can even consult a plastic surgeon.
But there are no guarantees.
