my advice is dont. windows will increase virtual memory when it needs it. if you set it so that you control it manually and its set too low you are in for one heck of a time fixing it.

-if you decide not to take my advice-
right click my computer and click properties. then click the advanced tab. then under the performance pane click on the settings button, now click on the adcanced tab in the performance options window and click on the change button in the virtual memory pane.
again i advise you not to change the settings, you have been warned

Operation Systems use RAM for as operating space.
They never write directly on the Hard Disk until you save your work.
When you use multiple tasks and application and you OS did not find enough space in RAM then it creates virtual memory (a space in your basic hard disk in which you have installed your OS) and it frees it when it is not require. Never try to manipulate the option, because it means you are hiring a person who will never helps you but bother you too much.
All what you need is to increase your RAM
