No, He said "the KINGDOM of Heaven is at hand," meaning that the hearer's means of gaining entry into the Kingdom was so close, they could reach out and touch it.
Genesis 2:8-14 makes it clear the Garden of Eden was in modern-day Iraq. A bit ironic, isn't it?

Actually Christ said behold the Kingdom of heaven is at hand. This would mean that the Kingdom is here and now, which in turn means that we are living in the time of the Kingdom, awaiting His second coming in which we are promised to be elevated to Heaven to praise and glorify His name forever. The story of Adam and Eve is an allegorical tale of Man's creation, with the inclusion of the origin of sin, which at the time was not the fact that they ate the fruit of the tree of Knowledge, it was that they broke the one and only rule the Lord had set before them. Humans continue to believe heaven is somewhere else because it is, we are in the Kingdom, but not in the Garden.

The garden of Eden was created here following earth.
Jesus stated that heaven and earth are two different dimensions in (Matthew 16:19). He also stated that he will go to prepare us a place which was in heaven where he was taken up into heaven and sat down in the place of honor at God's right hand. (Mark 16:19)

The Garden of Eden was heaven on earth. Adam and Eve could speak to God face to face, but they messed it all up for a fruit.
God would decend from heaven in the mornings and evenings to come and talk with them.
Genesis 1:1 "In the begining God created heaven and earth..."

People in general, confuse the meaning of Heaven.
(Matthew 10:7) And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.
Definition:
(kingdom) the spiritual sovereignty or domain of God or Christ.
(sovereignty) rightful status, independence, or prerogative.
(heaven) a place or state of supreme happiness.
(at hand) within reach; ready for use; accessible.
If we rewrite the about scripture to read:
And as ye go, preach, saying, Spiritual independence of supreme happiness is within reach and accessible.

The need to believe is stronger than the need for reason. Some people are so afraid of death, or suffer such low self esteem, that they cannot imagine a world where they are free to think for themselves and do what they want and need to do. The driving force behind religious dedication is fear and ignorance.
