Fundy: IE. Fundamentalist Christian, or Christian fundamentalist, a member of a group within the Christian church that came to being from within British and American Protestantism in the late 19th and early 20th centuries by conservative evangelical Christians. These folks have affirmed what they believe are a "fundamental" set of Christian beliefs, among which seems to be the belief that it's their way or the Highway to Hell.

Fundamentalism - old definition - A person who believes that some aspects of their belief are essential or fundamental to what they believe, so that a person who does not accept them cannot be a part of that belief system. For example you cannot be a Christian if you do not believe that Jesus is God the Son.

Fundamentalism - new definition - A person who is willing to use violence to promote their belief.

The older definition is more correct and even people who say they are not fundamentalist basically are. Some of the Christian beliefs that most Christians believe are essential to be a Christian:
The Trinity - One God exists in three persons; Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
The Incarnation - God the Son took on human flesh in the person of Jesus Christ
The Redemption - Jesus died on the cross for the sins of those willing to accept it, and was raised from the dead.
The Inspiration of Scripture - The Bible is God's Word.

This is a short list. For some people the list is longer. But notice that using the first more correct definition of fundamentalism most Christians have something they believe is essential to Christianity. After all if you don't have some solid definition going on all terms become useless, because everyone has their own definition.

The term fundamentalist Christian is used in some circles as a person who believes a specific list of fundamentals. I am a Christian but I don't agree with that entire list because it includes only the King James Bible and I believe other translations can be good. They also believe in only one possible end times viewpoint, where I am not nearly that confident. (I think they are right, but am not as cocksure of it as they are.)

This last usage of the term fundy Christian is probably the one that you have heard. But I wanted to give other definitions first.

To be totally candid, I don't know if I can give you an answer that will truly answer your question, but I will try.

A fundy (fundie) (fundamental) Christian is someone who believes strongly enough in God and Jesus so that he/she lives their life by it. If the Bible says that man is to help his neighbors, the "fundie" helps their neighbor (other people) etc. They count on God (through the Holy Spirit) to help them keep their lives on track by making decisions based on their knowledge of the word. They are considered "different" by many church goers (regardless of specific denomination) because worship to them is not simply an hour on Sunday. They worship God/Jesus through everything they do. They are worshipful parents, husbands, wives, employees and citizens and the way they live their lives provides a shining light to others morally and ethically. Although sometimes considered by some to be "over the edge" it is simply because the standards they live by are well above the standard of today's world. The Bible says that we are not to live in this world. That doesn't mean we ignore it but it does mean that we do not allow ourselves to partake of the bad things that man has devised. I hope this helps you to understand. God Bless.

Although their are many people in the world who claim to be Christian, only a small portion of them actually live by the word of God.

My guess is fundy is short for fundamental. Fundamental is foundational. So, it is believeing the foundational teachings of the Church.

Peter was quickened by the Spirit to know & confess who Jesus Is. "You are Yeshua Messiah/ Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God.".

Jesus said that it was His Father that revealed this to him. And that on this Rock, He will build His Church, and the gates of hell will not prevail. So, to be part of His Church, one needs to be quickened by God to confess who Jesus Is. The Christ and the Son of the Living God. And later Jesus said that to build on this Rock, by listening to the Word of God. Obedience to the Word of God. For what we build on the Rock foundation, will be tested by fire. Or the winds will come. And those perishable works will perish, and those everlasting (faith, hope & love, etc...) works remain. But the fundamentalist is on the Rock and even if all works perish, then the born again Christian is still on the Rock & has eternal life in him/her. But for works that remain, is everlasting rewards.

This is a key.

It's a "fundamentalist Christian". They are known for being extremist in their views--see everything in black and white and don't recognize anything as being gray. Either something is good or it is evil. There is no middle-ground. This makes fundamentalists a little hard to deal with and they tend to be very outspoken in their condemnation.
