Honesty must be tempered with kindness. I'd say it's too much when the intent is to hurt someone without provocation.

I live by the rule of thumb - "If I ask the question - I really want to hear the truth"
It gets me into trouble sometimes - but honesty is a big deal for me. I want the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Anything less I consider a lie by omission! The reverse is true too - if I get asked the question I will answer it with all honesty. I work in fashion and have been asked if this outfit or that looks good on someone - I always tell the truth - if it's bad I say so - if it's good I say so.

Honesty is always the best policy. If you're not being honest then you are lying. If you are always honest then you never have to remember what you said to someone.(i.e. remember your lie to them) Sometimes the truth hurts, but it's better than lying to them and giving them a false impression of what you think. This can perpetuate what you consider to be an undesirable action by the person you didn't tell the truth too and not only make it worse on them but make it harder on yourself as well.

It's not WHAT is said, it is HOW it is said and what the intent is. If you're being honest to help someone, that's going to come through in the conversation through your non-verabals, like tone of voice, body language etc. If your intest is to hurt the person, that will come through to. So, you can never be too honest, you just have to have the skills to say what you need to say.

I say never lie but volunteering unnecessary info is asking for trouble. Remain mysterious I don't tell anything more than what I have to.

Don't intentionally hurt another person, unless that's what they respond to best!
