My cousin has expressed interest in learning more about the bible and Jesus. I would like to get her first her own bible but also maybe a small book such as "the purpose driven life" or anything similair, any ideas? She has no religous background and all information would be new to her. Please if you do not have the same beliefs as I you do not need to post rude comments just move on to the next question that you feel can answer. Thank you

I have seen several good books that are short and the comment is more like a thought provoking question. Sorry I can't think of any of the names right now. I am sure they can assist you at the bookstore. Those books seem to get people reading and seeking answers more than just them trying to read their Bible on their own. I have given several different ones to people and they love them. You are a wonderful, thoughtful friend. She is blessed to have met you. I will keep you both in my prayers.

I would get her something which can illustrate the basics but don't involve reading. I wouldn't say a child's bible or anything, but perhaps a film about Christ or something where she can learn an overview of the basics as well as other types of things. I can think of a couple which are really cheap and really good: "Findind Faith in Christ," "The Lamb of God," a lot of people like Mil Gibson's "The Passion of Christ," though that was a bit too graphic for me. And I'm sure there are many other good films out there which go over the life of Christ and some of his teachings.

It really depends on her age. If she is younger, a children's bible with illustrations would be interesting. If she is a student, they have great student study Bibles at Christian book stores. The best thing to do might be to find a Christian bookstore and see what they have on hand. I'm sure you can find something nice there.

The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis also has Christian themes and is a wonderful read.

I'd get her a life application study bible and maybe a book form Max Lucado, Just like Jesus is a good one. Most importantly pray for her and encourage her to get into a good church and a bible study class. Just be there for her as much as you can and pray that God's love will shine through you. Its important for her to know that satan does not want to let her go and will fight tooth and nail to win her back. God bless

I recommend you buy a Strong's Concordance in the same version of the bible you are using. They cost only about $23. They are easy to use and someone that is reading the bible should have a concordance that contains EVERY word in the bible.

I say this: Get them a Bible, and then get a book called "Halley's Bible Handbook." It's very insightful and indulges also in the HISTORY of it, even giving archaeological FACTS. It even goes into "Church History and the Dark Ages"(Very interesting) You can get this book online too. (I have an OLDER VERSION...)

=) < This book is really something! Good luck!

The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis. Very funny, yet with deep and life-changing food for thought hidden in the laughter. People who are not at all Christian have read it and enjoyed it, and gotten a dose of Christian truth without resisting it or thinking it too preachy. People who are just beginning to be Christian, and getting discouraged, are encouraged to hang in there.
