All of a sudden the other day the back of my hand was swelling and turning bluish/green near my knuckle, just a small spot maybe an inch in diameter, so I figured it's broken blood vessel and the blood was leaking out, but I hadn't hit it on anything. Does anybody know what might cause this to just happen without injury? Thanks.

Could be an insect bite?

My youngest son gets this horrible from mosquito bites and little house spiders or whatever... Wherever he gets bitten, swells up to twice the size and turns black and blue and bleeds a little from the bite site.

We have to be very careful with him and spray for bugs regularly.

Do you have pet's? Maybe it's a flea?

It happens to me sometimes. You may be one of those people who bruise easily, and you also probably hit yourself but don't remember.Just keep an eye on the bruise and if it doesn't heal or spreads then go see a Doctor.

It depends on how it happend. If, by chance, you were flippin the bean and this injury occured...I would be worried. Otherwise...chalk it up to a little boo boo and move on with your life.

Get your platelet count checked. It may be low because of a viral infection or some other reason. Get a CBC done as well.
