Hi Everyone, I am setting up a booth at a Home Show in two days and this is my first time ever. It's for my business called CAD Drafting Solutions, LLC and I provide a CAD Drafting service to contractors, remodeling homeowners and lots more. I'm still within my first month of business and impatient with how slow it is moving so I am depending on this show to bring me customers. I'm quite nervous and want to be prepared as much as possible.

What do I need to catch people's eye? What kind of hand out do you think is best and most informative? What do you like when you see a booth and it makes you walk over to it to check it out. These are just some questions to help you start but any suggestions are welcome. I already have some things ready to go but what to hear everyone's ideas so that it'll be more creative. Thank You.

I agree with Robert on the giveaways. They will attract many people to your booth. To not detract from why you are there take Roberts advice and make the prize part of your services.

Now as far as keeping their attention once they get there. Show samples of your work. Have fliers available for them to take. Have an appointment book where they can sign up for consulting. Take your computer and have a houseplan visible on the screen. Make it look like your office. If you do 3d renderings as well, put some of those in the background. If you already have some houseplans drawn that someone could purchase, take some of those as well. Or, at least take some fliers of the floor plans and elevations.

The people you talk to at the show may or may not be able to use your services. But, they may know someone that does. Ask them if they know someone who could use your services.

Helpful tips after your Homeshow.

1. Contact the local chapter of the National Association of Home Builders. Many of the homebuilders buy their plans off of the internet. If you can get in with that crowd you will end up getting alot of referral business.

2. Another association to consider would be the Associated General Contractors association. However, this association is more commercial.

3. Talk to various architects and engineers. You may be able to do some drafting for them as a subcontractor.

Good giveaways DO bring traffic to your booth. Consider chocolate, honest to god, food brings people to a booth.

Bring a laptop set up to show samples of your work.

Have fliers with statistics of your company, skills, the softwares you use, the softwares you are compatible with (can you convert to Solidworks, ProE, etc)

Have information on PRICING and LEAD TIMES.
Have references for your work

And just make your booth standout. Do you have a backdrop, aside from the curtains at the show? Music can also sometimes be a draw, if the show isn't too loud.

Okay this question is right up my alley, I have been in sales all my life and one thing in your question caught my eye, you are giving out the over eager vibe, take it in your stride and relax a little. With that problem out of the way lets look at the next stage, imagine all the people are their to BUY not to look this is an important mental step and is miles more important than what you sell, Okay so now you have a customer in front of you, you have displayed the software, there are no objections, what should you do next?
GET YOUR RECIEPT BOOK OUT AND TAKE HIS BLOODY MONEY its as simple as that do not be afraid to ask for the order EVERY SINGLE TIME
Keep the presentation down to as few words as possible,
Like Hi instead of Hello
Are you looking to purchase (my ABC service or product) should be your next question. this is almost a trial close and if done right can make you RICH, like me.
If he says yes get out your order book, the order book is like a checklist and only requires the customers signature to make the sale firm, conditions on rear.
I have sold a hell of a lot of products and it really comes down to shorten the time spent to getting to the final and most important point GETTING THE MONEY (deposit) if you can get this down to 3 minutes presentation and close you will make money it is as simple as that.
Its all about YOUR mindset and a little bit of preperation, simple signage and working display.
Good luck

On that note... If you believe it is worth more than $100, my suggestion is to take it to an eBay Trading Specialist (QuickDrop, AuctionDrop, iSolidit, etc.). An eBay expert can yield a better return for your item and save you a guess everyone is chiming in with the standard answer "eBay", which I agree is the easiest thing to do, and likely to yield the highest return IF you know what you are doing.

Make a mock-up roof; not the entire one of course. It shows your best technology in action. This alone will take quite a space. check list: samples of roof coverage, video with construction works in progress (or technology), folders with past projects, business cards, well prepared to answer questions, dressed to impress, smile.
