I know it might sound obvious to vacum them up, but a lot of the time it doesnt work. Does anyone out there have a different way of getting rid of their pet hairs? My cats are black and white and it will only get worse when the malting starts!

thanks for all the answers. A lint roller seems the best for the furniture but not many answers yet for my carpet!

Dyson, Dyson, Dyson!

Get either a Dyson Animal or a normal Dyson and buy the animal attachment (not an upright!). They are expensive but have revolutionised pet hair removal....best hoover I ever bought! I have two house cats (one long haired) and every time I hoover (about once a week), I cannot tell you how much hair is picked up. The place looks immaculate!

If you know anyone who has one with the animal attachment, ask to borrow it and see for yourself :-)

Carpet, I have found a trick by accident. You know those oblong curved metal band brushes with teeth? Hard to explain them...most use them on dogs but smaller ones for cats. Looks like a horseshoe but ends are pulled together into a handle.

This is great to brush the cats with for it gets the under lying coat. But it is also great to use on the carpet to pull up and remove cat hair. I do my entire rooms every so often and then vacuum over that. Its a miracle how much the vacuum actually misses on hair.

Furniture....either those sticky rollers or just some cheap 2" wide tape. Masking tape works better than like a clear packing tape. Hit up a Odd Lots or Dollar Store and just get some cheap stuff. They do make link brushes for clothes, feels like a soft felt....these will work on like micro couches, etc.

A Dyson Animal Vacuuming Cleaner is very good for dog hair and mud. You should see the difference it made to my carpet. Wear a rubber glove or two and rub the furniture as it will help to get hair off furniture or try a damp cloth.
You can buy a Velcro Brush as well to do the job. It is good to remove pet hair from your clothes.

Wilkinsons do a product called lint pick-up which are adhesive rollers. When you've bought the first one (complete with handle) the refills are only £1.49 for two. They are wonderful for picking up cat hairs from clothes, furniture etc. When you have used an adhesive strip, you just peel it off and you have a fresh one. Each roll lasts a long time. I don't have a pet but next door's cat likes to spend time in my house. She even likes me to run the roll over her fur too!

Dyson vacuum. A little expensive, but well worth it. In addition to picking up all the cat hair it will pick up all the other dirt that you didn't notice. You can also get a special Dyson pet hair attachment (with a spinning brush like the main vacuum) that works great for furniture with so that you don't need to pick the vacuum up to clean all your furniture.

Get some sellotape and wrap it around your hand a few times ( sticky side out ) and run it accross the furniture, it's also good for clothes. As for the Carpet not too sure if you'd have the time to do this on your carpet.

I would say that you don't have a very good vacuum. I would recommend getting a bag-less so that way you aren't constantly changing it because of all of the hair. Also one that really scrubs the floor fast (if that's how you say it). I'd recommend a Hoover Savvy, you can pick one up at WalMart. If you don't want to get a new vacuum I'd suggest a lot of duct tape and go around and spot places. Good Luck.

Yes, there are pet-hair sponges (its a dry spongy-rubber block). Also, the rollers with sticky tape on them work well (or even a big roll of masking tape).

Try putting on rubber gloves (not the latex ones) and wiping your hands over the carpet, you can also use a really damp cloth and do the same.
