yes a 302 will fit in there if it has a small block in it (300 inline six, 289, 302, 351w) will all bolt up to the same transmisssion auto or manual i had a 84 f150 it had a 300 inline six in it and i took it out and replaced it with a 351w the only thing you will have to change is the motor mounts and the brain box and it you have a manual transmission with a 300 inline 6 change athe clutch plate and assembly the clutch assembly that is on the 300-6 is a 10 inch assembly when you install a v-8 i recommend installing a 11 inch assembly( clutch plate clutch disc and pressure plate) this will help extremely well with the power transfer from the motor to the transmission i made the mistake of using the 10 inch assembly when i installed the 351 it seemed to have no power so i took it apart and installed an 11 inch clutch assembly and it made a huge difference so i hope any of this is helpful

I dont see any problems but i would do some research . the 302 is a small block v8. no dounht itll fit under the hood, now the tranny sorta depends on what engine was originally in it. but it should not be a problem , I remember running the old forn 302's good running engines, but will go broke buying the fuel. I currently have a smaller v8 in my truck 4.7L v8 which is smaller than the 302 which is a 5.0L but its I force V8 (toyotaTundra) out pulls /more torque, better fuel economy etc.... Good luck..

The engine will definitely fit, it's a small block V8.

As far as bolting up to the transmission - it depends on what engine was in it originally, the 'stock' transmission could be a couple of different ones - auto or manual?

Chances are it will work, but you might want to post some more details.

should be no problem. what motor is in there now ?

i do recall a difference with a 1979 mustang in-line six / manuel trans. i wanted to put the motor into an 1982 granada in-line six /auto trans. there was a difference in the rear of the engine block so that i could not bolt up the auto trans. to the 79 mustang block
unaware of any like problems with small block v-8's if the truck had a 351w there may be issues with an auto. trans.
