Here's the thing, i'm grounded because i one C on my report card. ONE C! The rest are all A's! And she got a ticked off because i'm not putting enough effort into my work. It's one class! Besides, i'm not going to need poetry to become a veternarian!!! I know that for a FACT!

So, do you think that's fair? If so, why?

Ok, it's not like i don try. I'm AWSOME at poetry! It's just the teacher! She's HORRIBLE! Like, if u forget a red pen, it's a detention! Can you belive that? So when i do something wrong, it's an atomadic 0 on what ever the assignment is. Besides, she taught my uncle when he was in 10th grade. And he's 32 now! She is way to old!

I am a Mom and I don't think it is fair. A C is not terrible and it is only in one class, all of us canno't be perfect at everything all the time. Oh! And 32 is not old!!

Apparently you have never learned a basic fact in all education: the teacher has absolutely nothing to do with the grade that you get. If that were the case, then nobody in a class with a "bad"teacher would ever make an "A".
That just isn't so. There's always students who make "A's" regardless of the competency of the teacher. They realize that the teacher can only make the class a little more interesting and maybe a little more fun. YOU STILL HAVE TO DO THE WORK!
In addition, you are begging off of a class saying you won't need it in veteranarian school. WRONG! Every class you take teaches you how to think and poetry is one of the best. If you are having difficulties with the little things this teacher demands, how the heck do you think you'll ever make it through graduate school? They really put the screws to you there because their philosophy is very simple: if you can't stand up to the stress in school, how are you possibly going to be able to handle an emergency case at 4:00 a.m. when you haven't been feeling well for a week and you HAVE to go to work?
If you have been grounded less than two weeks for dealing out all this stuff that resembles the junk that comes out of the south end of a horse going north, your parents are being exceptionally lenient. They know that flunking one class can ruin your eeducational future.
You must stand up and accept responsibility for your actions. There is no excuse for trying to avoid your responsibilities. If you can't handle that, you have some really trying times ahead of you.

well, I think you may need a class like poetry for a degree in vet med.. you have to have english units and that would fall into the category.. So.. sorry, baby, there went that theory.
And with respect to the teacher.. I don't agree with tenure either.. There comes a point in time when they need to be put out to pasture, however, it appears that you do, in fact, know what is required for her class, so bring it!!
I will agree with you about the grade though.. and I'm a parent.. Mine are considerably older than you... 30 and 24, both with college educations, gainfully employed... blah, blah, blah.. actually I'm very proud of them.
But I never required a specific "grade" unless it came to sports.. I never agreed with that 2.0 nonsense, unless the coaches were prepared to pay for college.
All we ever asked our kids to do was their best. If a C is your best.. OK...you can't do better than BEST.
BUT... if you can't look your parents in the eye and tell them that this was your best effort. That maybe if you had turned in that homework assignment on time it might have made a difference..... or taken the red pen (that would define organization = best) then the C was not your best.
you know, I'll bet when your parents had you they didn't say.. we have an almost perfect baby..... they probably said... she's perfect. You need to think as highly of yourself as they do.
Use the time you're busted to show them your BEST.
Google this and read it... check with your poetry teacher about doing a report on this poem for some extra credit. You'll like it.

Well I'm a mom and I think that was a little over board myself. I would be a little disappointed that you didn't put your best effort into it. I know It sucks doing stuff that seems boring. Trust me, I use to loath high school! But what mattes is that you try your best. Next time find something that you can connect with that touches your soul. work on something you can relate to or believe enough to fight for! Your mom should have talked to you instead of grounding you. Sometimes they forget to communicate. By the way I commend you on all your other A's ! I hope you do become a vet. I love animals too.

Honestly I will say its not fair. But, I'm not your mother. Go talk to the teacher. Find out exactly what she expects from you to get an A. Get it next time. Don't let her ignorance get you grounded again. And as far as your mom goes, thing is she knows you've got it in you to get this teacher to give you an A. You sound like a wonderful person and your mom sounds like she loves you.
Update:
Maybe the lesson your mom wants you to learn doesn't have anything to do with poetry but more on how to deal with unreasonable people. Which would be a wonderful thing to learn as the world is full of them and one day one might be your boss. That is very hard to go through. I guess I'm starting to think your mom is not only right but very smart. I think it sounds like your mom is awesome. In the end I bet you thank her one day for this! LOL So okay, its fair! =)

Generally I dont like parents like that- where if you are a straight A student and dont get an A in one class you are not going anywhere with your life....
However, growing older I have noticed that it is for your success later in life when you go for job interviews and whatnot. It is better off if you are well educated in all fields even if you are going to be a vet- do you think the only thing that vets know how to do is vet things? HIghly unlikely!
So for your parents grounding you bc you got a C in one class is a little extreme but its bc they know you can do better and thats (sadly) the only way they can prove it to you.
Just think of the poetry youll be writing now.... the best poetry comes from life experiences! (Im a poet!)
Hope that helps! :)

You dont mention what grade you are in. But I can see her point. If you are in high school a c does not look good to a college. My son got 4 a's and 2 b's and I was ticked. College needs to see good grades, not a c. You are looking at the a's, your mom just saw the c. There is no reason for a student with all other a's to have a c on their report card. I know it sounds so unfair, your grades are unbelievable and noones perfect, but in todays world you have to have great grades to get any financial help for college, try to bring it atleast to a b. I am sure your mom knows you can do it thats why she got angry. Good luck you sound like a great kid.

Do I think it's fair? No.
Do I think you'll need poetry as a veterinarian? No.
Do I think there's any point in studying poetry anyway? No, but I'm a lifelong science geek (with 3 college degrees, thank you to all the people who are about to call me an uneducated moron).
However, competition for spaces in vet school is sooooo high, that you might need the grade even if you don't need the subject.

True u don't need poetry to become a vet but it effects your total average. Your total average effects the collage or vet school you get into and so on. I would pull my grade up and even though the teacher is a jer* I would take back control, don't let this old lady bring your average down you show her by not giving her and excuse to give you less then a A

I hate to say it but I think it's fair. If you didn't do the best you possibly could you deserve it. Now are you capable of remembering detailed instructions to get projects done? You'll need to be if you're expecting to learn to be a veterinarian and this class sounds like good practice for that even if it is in an unrelated field.

Hi Taylor,
I tend to agree with you plus I am certified in health care... Maybe this teacher of yours has got ElZheimers, she thinks she is reversing in the old way of teaching... Possibly she also thinks that you are your uncle.. Dementia, Elzheimers and so on... You never you some people do not even know it..
For example:
* someone who has a severe mental issue would not even know it, right??*
Maybe she does not know there is something wrong or it is simply time for her to give up on her teaching and evrything that goes with it...
