If you are referring to the king is Israel (or Judah) the last king of Judah reigned in 722BC (Hoshea) and the last king of Judah reigned in 587BC (Zedekiah).

Therefore, since Thessolonians was writtin more than 600 years after the last kings of Israel/Judah, you would really need to specify the country you were interested in.

And as mentioned above, Israel was still under Roman rule when these letters were written, and therefore a king couldn't be allowed even if they desired one.

King of what? Israel was under Roman rule, so I guess it would have been the Caesar Claudius, since both letters to the Thessalonians were written about 50 A.D. Or his son and emperor Domitian who took rule about 54 A.D.

Since the letters were likely written just prior to Paul's imprisonment, Nero was either ruling with his mother or not yet the Emporer.
