Hi, last month I signed a contract to leave for Marine Reserve boot camp. Recently however I have thought that perhaps I would be more suited to the Army Reserve. I'm curious if it is possible to drop the old contract and get a new one? Thanks.

Marines is the way to go but,... it is still your choice. Now answering ur question u can but u would have to get an army recruiter to try and get your info from the RSS you DEP-ed in with but they can hold u in the DEP for up to 365 days if they want to bust ur balls and u cant enlist to another branch until you r discharged from ur original contract with the Marines!

until you leave for bootcamp, your contract is not legally binding, however you have to get it cancelled prior to contracting with the army reserve, and it depends on the codes the marines use to cancell your contract if you can enlist with them. I would talk to your recruiter about why you want to change, and the reasons why may end up being the same reasons you should stay with the marines.

When I was in Marine Corps Boot camp in 1963.

We were told after boot camp branches can and have been changed. The marine Corps is the only branch if you change to come in. You must go through Marine corps boot camp and lose a stripe.

Marines can go into any other branch and and keep their rank.

This is what I was told.

I don't think so... it depends on what your contract says. If you are in the Delayed Entry Program, then you can probably get out of it. If you are on a contract with a delayed departure date, then that's another story.

Your best bet is to go and talk to the Army Reserve recruiters. Tell them what you did, tell them what you want, and stand back and watch them fight for you. They will do everything they can to help you get out of your obligation and make the right decision.

Serving is an honor, and you need to make the right decision to make the most out of your service.
good luck.

The main thing that I would want to know is why? The benefits are the same, the pay is the same and the food is the same. :) Now I do have a bias opnion here :) But the Corps is tougher but the rewards are for a lifetime. You can email me is you wish to chat more. :) Semper Fi

you might be able to pull it off, but it is not going to be easy by any means, but just remember being a Marine is pride for life, being a soldier is just being a soldier. US Army: So easy a caveman could do it.

I really don't think you can but if you go and ask them and tell them what you really want to do. maybe they will let you get out of the contract. good luck.
